Finally finished: Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine

I finally finished Space Marine after buying it ages ago. I have to say the game was quite fun, but there are definitely  some elements that I found really frustrating and annoying.

One of the biggest annoyances was some very unresponsive controls. I was playing with keyboard and mouse, and for the most part it works great. There is however this weird thing the game does, where if I hold down shift to sprint, then press space bar to do a quick roll, I have to let go of shift and press it again if I want to continue sprinting. It’s not a major issue, but one that got me killed a couple of times because I couldn’t get out of harms way fast enough.

There is also a tendency to get stuck in certain terrain, and while dodging and rolling around with the very clunky character, it’s quite easy to get yourself cornered with no way to escape.

The story itself is nothing amazing, but it did make me curious about what else goes on in the Warhammer 40K universe, since I knew absolutely nothing about it going into this game.

I really liked the main character; I always appreciate when the character I play as, is the one giving the orders and making decisions, rather than just taking orders from any random NPC you happen to come across. The two main antagonist are quite interesting  as well, and it was kind of fun to fight against them, but the rest of the characters were totally forgettable.

I would rate the game 6/10 – It’s worth a play-through, but I probably won’t play it again.

New batch of EA games coming to GOG

Just saw a mail from GOG.com showing that they are about to ad at least eight new games to their service in the next few weeks, and they already list Dungeon Keeper 2 and the first two Wing Commander games.

GOG EA games

Dungeon Keeper 2 was one of my favourite games when it came out, although like most of the Bullfrog games I’ve bought, I never actually finished it.

The only Wing Commander game I ever played was Wind Commander 2, but unfortunately I could never get very far into it (I sucked) and I remember it being very difficult to get it to run on our PC at the time, had to create a boot disk just for this game so it was a bit annoying. Now that it’s on GOG I think I might give it a bash again.

No clue as to what other games they will be bringing out, but I’m really hoping they include Crusader: No Regret.
